Cordless pool cleaner battery life
Runtimes and charge times checked 5 September 2026
Runtime is the number brands lead with and the one most likely to mislead, because it is quoted on the gentlest cleaning mode. This register lists what each manufacturer actually publishes, and is equally explicit about what none of them publish.

How to read a runtime figure
Runtime is measured on the mode that uses least power, which is usually floor-only cleaning in a smooth pool. Every additional job costs battery: climbing walls draws more current than driving along the floor, scrubbing the waterline more again, and pushing through leaf litter more than clean water.
The practical consequence is that a machine quoting three hours may deliver appreciably less on a full floor, wall and waterline cycle. If your pool sits at the top of a model's stated coverage, the honest planning assumption is the next model up.
What no manufacturer publishes
Three things matter over the life of the machine, and no brand selling into Australia discloses any of them:
- Cycle life. How many charges before capacity drops meaningfully. This is the number that decides whether you get three seasons or eight, and nobody states it.
- Replacement pack availability and price in Australia. Ask before you buy. A sealed pack with no Australian supply turns a $2,000 machine into a disposable one.
- Whether the pack is user-replaceable at all. Mostly it is not, and the product pages rarely say so outright.
The question worth asking a retailer: "if the battery fails in year four, what exactly happens?" A retailer who can answer with a part number and a price is selling you a repairable machine. One who cannot is selling you something with an undisclosed expiry date, and that belongs in the price comparison.
Common questions
How long does a cordless pool cleaner battery last on one charge?
Published runtimes for models sold in Australia range from about 1 to 11 hours. Manufacturers quote runtime on the lowest-power cleaning mode, so a wall-and-waterline cycle will always run shorter than the headline figure.
How many years will the battery last?
No manufacturer selling into Australia publishes a cycle-life figure, so there is no sourced answer to this. Lithium packs in this class typically degrade noticeably after a few hundred full cycles, which for twice-weekly summer use is a few seasons, but treat that as general battery behaviour rather than a specification any brand stands behind.
Can I replace the battery myself?
On most models the pack is sealed inside the housing and is not a user-serviceable part. Before buying, ask the retailer two specific questions: is a replacement pack sold separately in Australia, and what does it cost. If neither has an answer, the machine is effectively disposable when the battery goes.
Does leaving it on charge damage the battery?
Modern packs have charge management that stops the cell being overcharged, so leaving it docked is not the problem. Heat is. Storing the unit charging in direct sun on a hot Australian afternoon is harder on a lithium pack than any charging pattern.
Figures are manufacturer-published and were checked on 5 September 2026. Where a brand publishes conflicting figures across its own store, manual and marketing pages, we record the manual's figure and note the conflict rather than picking the flattering one.
