Every figure sourced and dated

Robotic pool cleaners, compared honestlyevery model sold in Australia, priced, costed to run, and checked for who will repair it here

Every other result is a brand's own store or a review written for American pools. This one is not selling anything. It answers what each machine actually sells for, what it costs to run on your own state's tariff, and whether anyone in Australia will fix it.

Four things we found

Each one came out of reading the source rather than the summary: the manufacturer's own manual, the retailer's own listing, the tariff on your own bill. Scroll and they stack.

  1. Running cost is the number people research, and it is almost nothing.

A robot uses roughly $4.86 to $7.85 of electricity across a whole swimming season, depending on your state's tariff.

The pump beside it costs about $358 a year. The robot is a rounding error; the pump is the bill.

    The running-cost register
  2. Most models do not publish the one figure a running cost needs.

Only 13 of 72 models publish an operating power draw. The rest publish a charger or standby rating, which is a different number and must never be used as if it were the running one.

Robotic cleaners also sit outside the Energy Rating scheme entirely, so no regulator holds the figure either.

    The specs register
  3. Warranty does not track price.

Dolphin X 40 PLUS and Dolphin S 400 sell for the same $3,399, with 2 and 4 year warranties.

Whether anyone in Australia can repair it varies even more than the term does, and it is the least visible thing at the point of sale.

    The warranty register
  4. Bunnings is near-empty for robots.

Exactly 1 of the 66 robotic cleaners we track is sold through Bunnings: Aiper Scuba N1600.

It is a good place for the manual side of pool care and close to no place for a robot, which is worth knowing before you drive there.

    What Bunnings actually stocks

Start with the right question. Most buying guides open with a ranked list. The first decision is bigger than which model: it is which type of cleaner suits your pool, and after that, whether the brand you are considering has anyone in Australia who can fix it. Those two answers eliminate more bad purchases than any feature comparison.

Where to go next

From the running-cost register

$7.85

of electricity for a whole season, at the dearest tariff in the country

Nobody in Australia publishes robot running costs and the machines sit outside the Energy Rating scheme, so we computed them from the tariffs in all eight states and territories. The pump beside the robot costs about $358 a year. People research the wrong number.

Running costs by state

Common questions

Are robotic pool cleaners worth it in Australia?

They replace the weekly vacuum, not the pump or the chemistry. The case for one is that it happens without anyone deciding to do it, and running costs are trivial at roughly $4.86 to $7.85 of electricity across a season. The purchase price is the real decision.

How much should I spend?

Prices we track run from $500 to $4,899. Pool size, whether you need wall and waterline cleaning, and whether the brand has an Australian service presence matter far more than the headline feature list.

Which brands are actually supported in Australia?

That varies more than price does, and it is the least visible thing at the point of sale. Some brands have an Australian company, a service network and locally stocked parts. Others sell here with an overseas contact address and no repair pathway. Our warranty register documents which is which.
